Definitions of Services

Personal Counseling – Personal counseling is a confidential and safe process that facilitates self-discovery and growth. There are many benefits to counseling including improved self-confidence, relationships, work and academic performance, and decision making, and most of us may benefit from counseling at one time or another. Nikaō provides individual, group, and couple counseling for a variety of personal concerns. Common concerns include relationship difficulties (e.g., marriage/pre-marital, romantic partner, family), depression, anxiety, and stress.

Couple Counseling – Couple counseling focuses on establishing and maintaining healthy romantic connections. Partners openly discuss their experience of the relationship, clarify how they want to function as a couple, and identify ways to cultivate a more positive, meaningful connection. Many times couples in a romantic relationship find therapy can assist them to deepen their commitment or even to make clear the differences in their values or goals which are getting in the way of true commitment.

Group Counseling – Group counseling involves four to eight individuals meeting with one to two trained counselor(s), typically once a week for an hour and a half. Group members talk about a variety of issues including exploring relationships, improving self-esteem, and enhancing coping skills. Group members share information about themselves and provide feedback to others while group leaders facilitate productive communication in the group.
